Reassessment of Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) in Cameroon
As part of the implementation of the Key Biodiversity Areas (KBA) framework in Cameroon, Forêts et Développement Rural (FODER), in partnership with BirdLife International and the KBA Secretariat, is launching a call for scientific contributions to support the reassessment of the 38 KBAs in Cameroon.
- Objective
This call aims to mobilize robust, georeferenced, and well-documented scientific data to update the information required for applying the global KBA criteria (IUCN KBA Standard) and to ensure a rigorous reassessment of these sites.
- Types of Data Requested
Contributions may include, but are not limited to:
🔹 Biological Data
- Species occurrence data (presence/absence, abundance)
- Data on threatened species (IUCN Red List)
- Data on endemic or range-restricted species
- Data on species aggregations (breeding, migration, feeding)
🔹 Ecological and Habitat Data
- Habitat and ecosystem mapping
- Data on habitat conservation status
- Data on pressures and threats (deforestation, fragmentation, exploitation)
🔹 Spatial Data
- GPS coordinates
- Shapefiles, raster datasets, thematic maps
- Boundaries or updates of existing KBAs
🔹 Documentary Sources
- Technical reports
- Scientific publications
- Theses and dissertations
- Unpublished datasets
- Minimum Technical Requirements
Submitted data should, as far as possible, include:
- 📍 Precise location (geographic coordinates – WGS84 recommended)
- 📅 Date or period of data collection
- 🧪 Data collection methodology (protocols, tools)
- 🧾 Source and validation level of the data
- 📁 Usable formats (Excel, CSV, shapefile, PDF, etc.)
- Reference to KBA Criteria
Where possible, contributions should support the following KBA criteria:
- A: Threatened biodiversity
- B: Geographically restricted biodiversity
- C: Ecological integrity
- D: Biological processes
- E: Quantitative irreplaceability
- Submission Modalities
Contributions should be submitted:
